If you walk or pedal on MacArthur Boulevard consider submitting comments to Maryland to support a new bike and foot path connecting Maryland and Virginia over the Potomac River. Submit comments TODAY (or by December 15, 2023)!
The American Legion Memorial Bridge over the Potomac River will be rebuilt soon.
The State of Maryland is drafting plans for the new bridge.
Maryland’s current plan includes a
NEW BIKE AND FOOT PATH
that will connect Maryland and Virginia!!
This current plan is really great but:
it does not connect the bike and foot path to MacArthur Boulevard.
The design COULD extend the new shared-use path to MacArthur Blvd:

I support the shared-use path for the new American Legion Bridge. I support extending the shared-use path to MacArthur Boulevard because it connects more users to the new path!
By connecting the shared-use path to MacArthur Boulevard, pedestrians and cyclists could directly access the shared use path without needing to travel out onto the C&O.
If the path starts on MacArthur Boulevard, the shared use path would also connect to the MacArthur Boulevard Bikeway.
Road bicycles don’t ride well on gravel paths like the C&O. The path would be accessible to road bikes if it starts on MacArthur Boulevard.
